Our Chapter

ASTA-OK (American String Teachers Association Oklahoma Chapter) is the only string-centric professional organization in Oklahoma. The far-flung geographic locations of our string programs pose a challenge to effective communication and development of a true string community. ASTA-OK is the central 'meeting place' for our string teachers and players. We sponsor several string events each year that both support and broaden the work being done in public schools and private studios across the state.

Through the ASTA-OK website, teachers, performers, and students have access to all the string related events going on in Oklahoma. In addition, this site encourages communication between string players, thus bolstering our community. Finally, the website will provide informative articles, through both our own newsletter and through direct access to the national ASTA site.

ASTA-OK strives to promote excellence in string and orchestra teaching and playing in Oklahoma.

We fulfill our mission through:

  • sponsoring activities responsive to the needs of all members
  • developing strong state leadership and active student chapters
  • enhancing the image and visibility of string teaching and study
  • advocating for string education in public schools
  • fostering an inclusive community of string teachers and players

Members include public school teachers, private studio teachers, orchestra directors, students, performers, administrators and members of the music industry. Nationwide ASTA has more than 9600 members. As the united voice for string and orchestra performers and educators, ASTA serves as a magnet to bring people together.
